Society's March 2019 visit to Cwmdar Primary School

A small team of CAS astronomers made an evening visit to Cwmdar Primary School in Aberdare on the evening of 22nd March 2019 to make presentations to the schoolchildren on several (not too scholarly) astronomical subjects, all of which went down well with the audience, as shown by the pictures below and opposite (posted with the permission of the children's parents).

The presentations were on:

  • NASA's Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy, SOFIA - a converted Boeing 747 aircraft housing a Hubble-sized telescope
  • "Starry Night" - a bit like "Stellarium'
  • Making meteor craters - using a baking tray with flour in and throwing sweets into it!
