Following on from the Society's successful participation in Star Attractions Day at the National Museum Cardiff on 19th January, we will be involved in two events at the Brecon Beacons Mountain Visitor Centre later in the year.
On Saturday, 22nd June 2019 we will be running another Solar Viewing session (timed to tie in with the 2019 Summer Solstice on 21st June) and the Society will join up once again with Dark Sky Wales for a stargazing evening on Friday, 18th October 2019.
The Society has also been asked to have a stand at St. David's Hall for the performance of Gustav Holst's "The Planets" suite by the Philharmonia Orchestra, on Tuesday, 25th June, to provide some background interest and expertise for the audience. Also included are performances of:
- "At the Castle Gate" prelude from "Pelleas et Melisande" (Music from Sky at Night) by Jean Sibelius
- Soundtrack suite from "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" by John Williams, and
- "The Shining One" by Guillaume Connesson
There will also be several events in July relating to the 50th anniversary of the first landings - by humans! - on the Moon (Apollo 11 landed on the Moon on 20th July 1969 and US astronaut Neil Armstrong made his "big step" on the following day). One definite event will take place on Saturday, 20th July 2019 at the National Museum Cardiff in Cathays Park.
Further details of these events will be made available in due course.
