Solar Viewing Brecon 24th June 23

Solar Viewing: Visitor Centre, Libanus, Bannau Bryncheiniog National Park. 24th June 23

Not a promising start as we drove up through Pontypridd. Warm but a low mist over the mountains, and then drizzle but onwards we go as the event had been advertised, and we've given a promise to be there.

But hey ho, as has happened many times in the past and as forecast, as time went on, the clouds dispersed, and some promising blue sky showed itself looking towards towards the venue.

Usual good welcome from the staff, everything arranged and after the usual 'organised chaos' of the set-up off we went.

Solar scopes out and showing prominences and sunspots, colourful information booklets were popular, an international audience (Netherlands, Italy, France and England) and hopefully, some young minds already eager and quite knowledgeable were set out on the road to be our future astrophysicists and astronomers. At their age I would have thought it amazing that this was all laid out before me and so accessible.

I made sure that the staff had their opportunity of telescope time and their pick of the resource material. They told us that the public coming into the shop were so impressed and singing our praises!

We were kept busy until packing up just after 4 pm. A happy but tired bunch making their way southwards.
